PokerStars Sunday Roundup

As far as online tournaments go, there are no weekly tournaments as big as the ones that PokerStars provide each Sunday. This week saw Dan “Danny98765” Smith winning the PokerStars Sunday Million for a very healthy first place prize of $219,504.25. The other big winner on the day was “Vzsolt800” who took down the Sunday Warm-up for $108,299.68.

The Sunday Million!

Dan “Danny98765” Smith has been running extremely well of late in live tournaments, in fact he has amassed earnings of around $3.6 million this year alone from live tournaments. He won the $100k Aussie Millions High Roller, whilst he also took down the €50k European Poker Tour Barcelona High Roller and also won a total of three side events during the European Poker Tour Grand Final.

By his standards he then had a rather quiet period of seven weeks before he made his next final table at the Partouche Main Event which gave him $224k. Many would have thought that may be it for his marvelous run for the year, but he wasn’t quite ready to stop just yet. He decided he wanted to add the most difficult online tournament to his C.V by winning it yesterday.

The event drew 7,060 players of which completely smashed the $1million prize pool guarantee to actually offer $1,412,000.

Smith completely destroyed the field, as by the time he made it to the final table he had already amassed over 18 million in chips. That total was double his closest rival on the final table, and he didn’t let up there. He systematically increased his chip stack by picking off players left, right and centre

The Sunday Warmup!

This event saw 3,449 players take to the virtual felt, which brought another guarantee shattering prize pool of $689,800. The winner of the event was a player that came ever so close to winning a WCOOP bracelet just a few weeks ago, finishing in 4th place in one of the events.

Sunday however was his day, as he took home a total of $108,299.68 for his victory. He played well throughout the event yet it was on the final table where he seemed to be in a league of his own. He didn’t come onto the final table as the chip leader and was in fact in 7th place, yet he picked his way through the field to eventually come out on top.
