PokerStars Top 5 – Behind The Poker Face

Question mark man

Once again we return with one of the ‘Top 5’ videos from PokerStars YouTube channel, with this week’s chosen one swaying away from the top 5 moments from individual players and instead concentrating on five particular hands played by some of the world’s best players.

We have already seen the top 5 best moments from the likes of PokerStars Team Pros Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Selbst, Liv Boeree and Nacho Barbero over the past few weeks but this time the video looks at a number of hands played during ‘The Big Game’.

Phil Laak, Phil Hellmuth, PokerStars Team Pros Lex Veldhius, Vanessa Selbst, Randy Lew and Daniel Negreanu all give their thoughts on how they played their particular hands when playing on ‘The Big Game’, offering a great insight into how top professionals think whilst playing a hand.

Phil Laak starts things off when he talks about how he plays a hand against Brian Rast where he uses a very unconventional aggressive approach that somehow pays off. Hellmuth then analyses a hand he played well against Antonio Esfandiari whilst Veldhuis discusses his thought processes during a hand against Negreanu. Next up Selbst talks about how she outplayed Prahlad Friedman and both Negreanu and Lew give their sides of the story about a hand they played against eachother on the show.

The hand between Negreanu and Lew is particularly interesting because you get to see how each player has approached the hand and whilst Lew gets unlucky on the turn you can see that he pretty much had Negreanu figured out before that bit of bad luck. We are sure he would have made up for it by playing 24 tables concurrently on PokerStars later that night for a small fortune though.

It really is fascinating learning how each of these players thinks long and hard about each decision they make, what they believe their opponents to be holding and whether or not they can win the hand for as much value as possible. This sort of thought process is what separates good players from average ones and is something that we should all strive to reach one day.

Check out the video below and bask in the excellence that is on display.

We will return again with another of PokerStars Top 5 videos probably this time next week, but if you want to check them all out right now you can head over to the PokerStars YouTube channel.
