PokerStars UKIPT Cork Day 1b – Gavin Tops Day’s Field!

Ireland sign

ireland signDay 1b of the PokerStars UK & Ireland Poker Tour Cork was started and finished up yesterday, with expectations more than matched with regards to the number of players taking part. The first flight of Day 1 was a little bit disappointing, yet 244 players came to play on Day 1b which more than made up for it.

That gave us a grand total of 387 players who have registered for this event, which has created a prize pool of €262,773. This also means that there will be just 48 players to finish in the money, with the player finishing first getting his or her hands on €60,440.

By the time the action on the tables had finished for another day, there were just 100 of those that came into the day remaining. That means a field of 158 will be going into Day 2. The player who finished at the top end of the day’s chip counts was Fintan Gavin, as the local Irish player managed to amass 107k in chips.

That has him in second place overall and in a good position to make a challenge on the title. He started as he meant to go on by winning a massive early pot by risking all of his chips pre-flop whilst holding pocket kings.

Other notables in the field include Dave Clarkson, Julian Thew and a few PokerStars Team Pros in Liv Boeree, Jake Cody and Dale Phillip. The latter did the best of the three on the Day as Boeree only just managed to scrape through with around $20k chips and Cody being eliminated late on in the day.
