The World Series of Poker is not the only place to find top level poker tournaments in Las Vegas over the summer, you can ask PokerStars Team Pro Jason Mercier about that as he secured his biggest live score in an event not so long ago.
The event that Jason Mercier scored in was the Bellagio $100k Super High Roller that preceded this latest one specially arranged for Independence Day which saw Doug Polk come out the winner and $1,648.350 richer.
Had my most profitable day ever this morning

The one day event brought in 37 registrations which included some of the most well known high stakes tournament players in the world. Jason Mercier took part again whilst the likes of Joseph Cheong, Ole Schemion, Erik Seidel, Dan Smith, Philipp Gruissem and Brian Rast were also a part of the field.
Finished 4th, long night, tough players
— Erik Seidel (@Erik_Seidel) July 5, 2014
The prize pool that was created was $3,700,000 million with that amount being shared among the top five finishers. Polk secured the lions share of that and recorded his best ever live score for his win after beating a final table that included Erik Seidel, Jacob Schindler and Alberto Gomez who was his heads-up opponent.
The final hand in the event saw the chips in the middle between the two with Polk holding the Q-9 and Gomez the A-K. it looked ominous for Polk but he had the hand and title wrapped up by the turn after the board up until then fell as the 5-6-7-8 to give him a straight.
How It Finished
1st) Doug “WCGRider” Polk – $1,648.350
2nd) Alberto Gomez – $915,750
3rd) Jacob Schindler – $549,450
4th) Erik Seidel – $366,300
5th) Fabrice Touil – $183,150
