Whilst the World Series of Poker Main Event has been trundling along this week, there has been another event that attracted a huge turnout in the World Poker Tour 500.
The $565 event brought in 3,599 players to the Aria Resort & Casino spread across five opening day flights and a turbo opening flight. The format worked by allowing players to enter into as many of the opening day flights as they wished in order to make it to the final day which was Day 2. The top 5% from each day would make it into Day 2.
The format seemed to be hugely popular after it created a prize pool of $1.8 million, which was almost double that of the $1 million prize pool guarantee.
Once Day 2 was reached the players played until there was a winner, who on this occasion was Sean Yu who took home $260,000, a free seat in the event next year and a $2k package to play in the next WPT500 which is to be held at the Dusk Till Dawn poker club in Nottingham this November.
Yu beat out the likes of Scott Clements and Christian Harder before coming up against Kareem Marshall heads-up. The final hand saw both players push all-in on a flop of 10c-8s-7c with Yu holding the 10d-7d and Marshall the Ad-Kd. The turn and river were the Jc and Ah respectively to give Yu the win with a two pair.
