With 2012 now consigned to the history books, it was Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky who finished the year as the highest earning online cash player, with profits very close to $4 million. That figure had him on top of every other player across each and every online poker site, though most of his winnings came at PokerStars.
Still only 25 years old, took a total of $3,581,763 at PokerStars and a further $367,981 at Full Tilt Poker when it re-launched in November, which when totaled up equals $3,949,744.
His preferred variation of poker during that time was Pot Limit Omaha, with his preferred stakes being that of $200/$400. His biggest single pot of the year was one of $265k, though he made countless others over $200k too. It was an excellent year for the player, due to his expertise at knowing just when enough is enough and quitting when ahead.
The Biggest Loser!
On the other end of the scale was Gus Hansen, who took just two months to lose $3.1 million. With this situation just showing how difficult life can be in poker, it takes Sulsky 12 months to secure profits of $4million, yet takes Hansen two months to lose $3 million.
He hadn’t played online all year until the re-launch of Full Tilt Poker on the 6th of November after being installed as one of the sites “Professionals”. He had only just been re-acquainted with his funds in the site yet didn’t take long for him to start losing a huge chunk of it.
Other Big Winners In 2012!
Apart from Sulsky, there were others that although they could not match the year that “Sauce123” had, they still had very good years in their own right.
Jens Kyllonen – $2.4 Million – (Jeans89)
Ben Tollerene – $1.9 Million – (Ben86)
Sebastian Sabic – $1.7 Million – (Seb86)
Sven Heinecker – $1.6 Million – (ragen70)
Alexander Millar – $1.5 Million – (Kanu7)
Phil Galfond – $1.4 Million – (MrSweets28)
Ronny Kaiser – $1.4 Million – (ronnyr3)
Rob Akery – $1.1 Million – (Vaga_Lion)
With last year done with, it is going to be interesting to see the battle develop for the highest earning online high stakes player throughout 2013. Can Sulsky do it again? Or will some of the other players step up their game?
