He may not be every body’s favourite poker player; he can sometimes come across as a little cocky with regards to his poker. However, it is more like a stage act, as he regularly shows his compassion by during charity work such as running this event every year.
He has run this event for two years prior to this one, and the Phil Hellmuth Hold’Em With Agrace HospiceCare Charity Poker Event has raised nearly $300,000 for all of the patients and their families related to the hospice.
Out Of The Cold And Into The Warm
This year sees it being pulled back from the cold winter months to be held in the much warmer month of August. It kicks off on the 18th and is set to include Hellmuth alongside four other popular poker professionals, Jerry Yang, Annette Obrestad, Mark Kroon and Gavin Smith.
The event is not just about poker either, with a golf outing, raffle and a silent auction to look forward to too. In regards to the poker though, players who attend will be able to take on the poker pro’s as well as some local celebrities thrown in as well.
Fellow poker pro Jerry Yang had these words to say about Hellmuth “Phil really is a great guy, extremely popular. What he is doing here is such a great thing for the community and of course especially for the hospice”. Yang who won the WSOP Main Event back in 2007 also said “Before I was a poker player I used to work in a nursing home, so I really do know what it can be like for some of these families going through a hospice program. It has always been a really big passion of mine to be able to support things like this, which is why I am looking forward to bringing my support to this event”.
Every cent of the proceeds made from this event will go directly to the Agrace HospiceCare though Hellmuth himself will donate a ticket to the 2013 World Series Of Poker as well as a two year leasing of a 2012 Honda Fit, both will be prizes in the raffle.
This is a non-profit hospice which is dedicated to bringing support to all of its patients and their families; it has become recognized nationally for its whole selection of care options from in-home, inpatient and residential care.
