The EPT Barcelona Main Event Kicks Off Today

Yet another poker tournament is about to get underway, the poker season is finally picking back up after the WSOP.

Whilst the PokerStars EPT Barcelona High Roller Event has been playing along, many other players have been waiting to take part in the PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event. The 5,000 Euro event starts today and will actually run alongside the final table at the other event.

The champion will be known on the 25th of August, whilst there is expected to be a record amount of entrants this year. Last year there were an incredible 811 participants, which they hope to top in this year’s event.

Players will start with 30,000 chips each and the blinds will gradually increase on each level of 75 minutes until the 14th level where the blinds will increase every 90 minutes. All will be hoping that they can progress far enough to make the money, and even make that final table and possibly take down the title and the winner’s cheque.

Last Year’s Event

As we previously mentioned, last year’s event attracted a huge amount of players, 811 to be exact with the winner being Martin Schleich. The German played magnificently to come out on top in that tournament and walked away with a very generous 850,000 Euros.

It was a highly successful event in what is already Spain’s largest poker tournament, whilst also being one of the biggest in Europe.

This year is expected to be even more successful, with many of the side events already boasting bigger than expected numbers taking part. The 50k High Roller Event for instance has seen a prize pool generated of over 3 million Euros.

There has been a large selection of side games so far, with a few still to go. There is something for everyone, stakes to suit all from low to high. However, the Main Event is the one that will always attract the most attention due to the sheer numbers that take part and the prize pool that will generate.

There will be three events in fact running alongside each other today; this one begins whilst there are two final tables to be played out in other events. The High Roller Event that we already mentioned should be finishing up soon, whilst the 1,000 Euro Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event will also be wrapped up.

We will be there to bring you up to date information regarding this event as it unfolds, whilst also letting you know who won the other final tables. So be sure to keep coming back to keep yourself informed on everything that is happening regarding the European Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event.
