Sunday was by far one of the most anticipated days of the year for online poker pros as it marked the start of probably the biggest online event of the year. The PokerStars World Championship Of Online Poker has been running for the past few weeks and Sunday was the beginning of its final and Main Event.
In total there were 1,825 players that decided to take the chance of winning a guaranteed $1 million first place prize. As Day 1 came to an end there were just 245 left with just 20 more to go before the money bubble is burst. The leader of that event is Mike “munchenHB” Telker.
In the other event on Sunday, PokerStars Team Pro Jason Mercier finally got a WCOOP bracelet this year in the High Roller event scooping $235,425 in the process.
$5,200 NLHE Main Event $5 Million Guaranteed!
The original starting field of 1,825 in this event has now been reduced to 245 after a mammoth twenty 30 minute levels on Day 1. With the registrations easily exceeding the prize pool guarantee, the first prize is now set at $1,612,844 which dwarf’s the original guarantee of $1 million.
Day 1 eliminations included names such as Tobias “PokerNoob999” Reinkenmeier, defending champ Thomas “Kallllle” Pederson and Jason Mercier, though Mercier won’t be too disappointed after securing the win in the other event played today.
He lost when he raised to 1,400 pre-flop and was instantly raised over the top by an all-in from “slv458”, Mercier called holding pocket eights which gave him a dominant hand over his opponents pocket sixes. His luck was not in though as the board ran out as Ad-6s-2s-7d-4c which gave his opponent the set.
