As expected the action at the high stakes tables at both PokerStars and Full Tilt was as busy as ever over the last seven days, with many of the usual suspects producing another week’s worth of high octane poker action for the highest stakes imaginable.
This week in particular is all about the fortunes of two players, Ilari Sahamies and Gus Hansen.
Last Monday began with Ilari “Ilari FIN” Sahamies again being the centre of attention as he took down half a million whilst playing at his favoured $200/$400 pot limit Omaha tables on PokerStars. In usual Sahamies style he smashed his opponents to chalk up the profit in just a short few hour session. He did all of this only to lose it all again and finish even for the day.
The next two days were all about one man in many respects, Gus Hansen. Tuesday saw him lose even more money since returning to the high stakes tables on Full Tilt Poker as he dropped around $325k. His biggest foes that day were both “Seb86” and the ever aggressive “O Fortuna PLS”.
Wednesday was so much better for Hansen as he stormed right to the other end of the profit charts by taking down the day’s biggest score of $470k. This win at that stage had reduced his losses since his return to the site to around $230k. He was up against “SallyWoo” on the nosebleed stakes of $2k/$4k at the Fixed limit Omaha Hi/Lo tables.
With a couple of days out of the limelight it was inevitable that Sahamies would once again steal the show. He became the day’s biggest winner, though with a modest score by his standards of $227k. Sahamies has certainly had a roller coaster of a few months, however he is in much better shape now after being almost $2 million down at one point during the year, and he is now sitting on profits of close to a million.
Friday saw Hansen suffer one of his biggest downswings of his high stakes career as he dropped a staggering $1.5 million in a session that lasted an amazing 27 hours. He might be wishing he stayed in bed that day as he had a torrid time up against the likes of “SallyWoo” and “KPR16”.
The weekend actually did not really involve either player, with Hansen probably licking his wounds and Sahamies deciding against risking his week’s winnings. This left “1-ronnyr3” to take the headlines as he recorded winnings of over $500k all throughout the weekend.
