Just a few days after the WPT Cyprus Event finished the World Poker Tour Parx Open started, with Day 1 being obviously the first day to get underway.
This event, hosted in the Parx Casino in Philadelphia has attracted 324 players so far, with 50 already registered for Day 2b. On Day 1a however, from those 324, only 93 managed to survive and make it through to Day 2.
Cornel Cimpan Is The Early Pace Setter!
The man who is topping the leader board currently is none other than the 2009 World Poker Tour World Poker Finals champion Cornel Cimpan, who currently holds 242,800 chips. It is early days but he will be happy with his progress so far, especially considering the caliber of some of the players that didn’t make it through day 1.
We had Dan O’Brien, Matt Glantz, Allen Kessler and Tony Dunst all hitting the rail early in this tournament, though some may opt to re-buy into the event on a later day. That is the beauty of this event, if you fail just try again.
Glantz Bails Out Early!
One of those players Glantz is actually the Poker Ambassador for the Parx cub and he finally busted out on this hand. He went all in on a flop of Ks,Jc,7c whilst holding the flush draw of Ac,Qc, he was up against an A,K and his draw never came.
Matt Brady also didn’t have the luck with him, he got all the way to the last level of play and found himself pocket queens in his hand, he pushed all in and was called by an opponent who was holding A,K. His queens manage to hold until the river where a king decided to make a showing.
Of the more notable players heading into Day2 of the tournament, we had Dwyte Pilgrim, Xuan Liu, Jason Somerville, David Baker and Christian Harder all playing well and looking confident of having a good show at this year’s tournament.
Here is a closer look at the top 10 of the leader board as it stands at the end of Day 1a:
1 Cornel Cimpan 242,800
2 Gregory Shuarts 220,000
3 William Brandise 208,300
