The World Series Of Poker in Las Vegas is each year’s great poker spectacle, with lots of action and excitement on the poker table, as players from around the world try to win its prestigious bracelets.

Join us, as we go back to the most memorable moments of the 2012 World Series Of Poker.

1. Vanessa Selbst Wins Bracelet In The $2,500 10-Game

Vanessa Selbst further confirmed her status as the best female poker player around by becoming the first woman to win a WSOP bracelet since she herself last won one back in 2008. This made her the first woman to win a mixed game bracelet further proving that her all round game is up there with the best of them.

She is still a little way off from being the best female player in history but if she can keep up the form she shoed in 2012 in won’t be too long before she is recognised by that honour.

2. Phil Hellmuth Takes 12th WSOP Bracelet

He may not be the most popular poker player in the world due to his tantrums, yet I don’t think anybody can deny his poker skills. He won his 12th WSOP bracelet at the WSOP (then won the WSOPE Main Event later in the year to make it 13), with this bracelet being his first one that wasn’t a NLHE event.

This has put him well ahead of his closest rivals with regards to bracelet counts, with Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan all not winning a single bracelet in 2012.

3. Phil Ivey Makes Five Final Tables

Phil Ivey took a year out from the WSOP in 2011 and made his return in 2012 and made an astonishing five final tables. Though he will not be happy that he didn’t manage to turn any of them into bracelet wins, he will at least know that he still has the poker magic to mix it with the best of them.

2013 will see him looking to win some more bracelets and try to catch up with Phil Hellmuth and his 13 WSOP bracelets.

4. The Women Almost Do It

The women are getting closer and closer to winning the WSOP Main Event with two of them just missing out on the final table in 2012. Elisabeth Hille and Gaelle Baumann were eliminated in 11th and 10th place, with it being the best performance by women at the WSOP in many years.

Though they couldn’t make the final table, it is performances like this that will help to inspire more women to take up the game.

5. Mizrachi Wins $50k Poker Players Championship x 2

Whilst his victory in the $50k Poker Players Championship gave him a third WSOP bracelet, it is the fact that he did it by winning this event for the second time. That achievement had never been done by anyone before and certainly moves him up into legendary status now.

He has always been regarded as one of the best players around, however this was now confirmed in 2012.
