Two Big Hitters Nadal And Selbst To Go Heads Up

Rafael Nadal with Daniel Negreanu

World number one tennis player Rafael Nadal and currently ranked third best poker tournament player Vanessa Selbst are about to go head to head in Monaco in a few days time. Unfortunately for PokerStars Team Sports member Nadal, it is going to be on the green of the poker table rather than on the green of a grass tennis court.

Nadal has made room in a busy training schedule to keep up his ambassadorial duties for PokerStars and will take advantage of the fact that PokerStars Team Pro Vanessa Selbst is in town for both the EPT Sanremo and EPT Monte Carlo this month. Nadal himself is in Monaco for the ATP Monte Carlo Masters and has managed to free up April the 11th to really test how far his poker game has come.

“Its a game of skill that requires mental strength and the ability to out-think your opponents… and now Im looking forward to the challenge of playing against Vanessa”.

The last six months has seen his game improve tenfold at the tables after he first won a charity event against the likes of PokerStars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu and footballers Ronaldo and Shevchenko, then took on both Spain and then the world in separate online Zoom challenges and won.

This challenge is likely to be tougher than all of them though with Selbst being one of the best players in the world and a highly aggressive one at that. She is extremely competitive and will not want to come second best to a player that is primarily a recreational one.

Whilst Nadal will now be trying his best to raise his game and put some practice hours in, Selbst will be looking to continue a successful start to 2014. She is in the running for the European Poker Tour Player of the Year and could well seal the honour in the two remaining stops in Sanremo and Monte Carlo, whilst she will also want to add to the two 3rd place finishes she made in the Super High Roller and High Roller events at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure back in January.

We will let you know how the challenge goes as soon as we hear ourselves but we are sure it is going to be explosive stuff from the two big hitters.
