The PokerStars backed UKIPT Newcastle Main Event has now been whittled down to just 62 players in an afternoon of high octane poker action. The players that remain will all be happy with the fact that they already know that they have made the money positions.
The leader going into the second to last day’s action is David Reed who has amassed a very nice stack of 363,500.
This event has grown into one of the most popular throughout the year on the yearly calendar, and is it any wonder when you see not only the size but the quality of the field that it attracts. This event grows year on year and it doesn’t look likely to buck the trend next year.
As play began in the morning there were 273 players all trying to get themselves in a position where they might be able to challenge for the title. However, as the day ended more than 200 of those players had been eliminated, ending their dreams of glory.
One such player, Paul Taggart was eliminated after going all-in with pocket sixes, to run straight into the pocket aces of Sam Holden. The board obviously didn’t help Taggart who burst right on the bubble, meaning he fell just one place of receiving any money for his troubles.
Who Else Was Reigning Supreme!
Well apart from Reed, we had another five players that all managed to finish the day with more than 300k in chips. Barry McMahon ended with 348,500, Brett Angell who was actually the chip leader following the end of Day 1b had 336,00, Alexander Nathaniel Jobling cobbled together 320,000 to name the more notables.
Though those players would have been happy with their performances, there were still a fair few big name players that managed to make it through without causing fireworks. We had PokerStars Team pro Jude Ainsworth being satisfied with 237,500 and Sam Holden who we mentioned earlier acquiring 207,000 and the infamous Keith “TheCamal” Hawkins scraping through with 119,000.
