About three years ago a certain Tom “Durrrr” Dwan and Viktor ”Isildur1” Blom used to literally tear up the tables at the former Full Tilt Poker site, with them having quite a fierce rivalry against each other. Well the hands of time are about to go back again as they plan to square up once more on Full Tilt Poker this Sunday in a $100k heads up clash.
Full Tilt has already been buzzing this last week with the FTOPS XXI running along, yet things are certainly going to get a lot juicier for the railbirds come this weekend.
Both players were snapped up by the now PokerStars owned Full Tilt Poker to be two of the sites three “Professionals” for when the site re-opened its doors. They are both known for their very loose and aggressive styles which had players in awe back in 2009 when they used to pit their wits against each other all of the time.
Back then, Dwan had already made a massive name for himself by beating most of the high stakes online players and earning himself millions in the process. However “Isildur1” started popping up on the scene, with his identity not yet known. He was playing a super high aggressive game, against many of the best heads up high stakes specialists at the time and winning consistently.
He would specialise at NLHE whilst also play a little bit of PLO, which is where he met Dwan for the first time. It was like fireworks as both of the most aggressive players in poker would go head to head on many occasions in sessions that would last hours with some of the biggest pots ever seen online being created. Blom manages to make himself a multi millionaire by winning around $5 million in that period of time, with a large slice of it coming from “Durrrr”.
It wasn’t until a couple of years later that “Isildur1” finally revealed his identity whilst playing at the 2011 PCA. Full Tilt was then shut down due to obvious reasons which has left the battles on ice for some time…until now.
This stake of just $100k may not be what people are used to with encounters between these two, yet do not be surprised if this is just the tip of the iceberg. This could be the re-igniting of the rivalry, with “Durrr” obviously looking to recoup some of his losses.
Ironically, both players have not been fairing quite so well online of late, with other players seemingly learning how to beat the super aggressive style that they both have.
