Viktor Blom Tops Online High Stakes

Mouse and money

Viktor Blom got off to a good start this month and won a seven digit figure last week, but things got even better over the last couple of days.

“Isildur1” has a reputation for being fearless and he never avoids a fight, even when his opponent starts with the first chance. He frequently locked horns with Phil Galfond and Dan Cates, but this time the Swede was unstoppable and beat the poker pros for significant amounts.

Cates was in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons a few days ago as he was the first to cross the psychological threshold of $1 million in losses. Just when we thought that nobody would strip him of this infamous title, Phil Galfond joined him to the rail by losing $1,011,872. Most of this money went straight into Viktor’s Full Tilt Poker account as he made short work of Phil at 2-7 triple draw and 8-Game tables.

The two poker professionals started playing at the $300/$600 Pot-Limit Omaha tables and nothing of importance happened in the first half of the session. As action heated up, Blom shifted into an aggressive gear and he was lucky enough to win the big pots for more than two hours. After roughly 6 hours of play, he was $600k up and even though Galfond held his ground for the remainder of the session, he was unable to close the gap.

Prior to this encounter, Phil won six digit figures almost each day for more than a week and was fairly confident that his return to online poker will be very lucrative. Galfond was dominant at both $2,000/$4,000 2-7 triple draw and $200/$400 CAP pot-limit Omaha tables, but at the end of the week all his winnings were wiped out by Blom.

Galfond and Cates are without doubt the week’s biggest losers, but there are others who anxiously wait for a new week to begin. Among those seeking redemption are “samrostan” who lost over $400k, “FakeSky” who dropped $300k and Gus Hansen who lost almost $150k in roughly 15,000 hands.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, we have a handful of successful players who won a combined $500k yesterday and Blom sits at the top of the list. Yesterday alone he won $267,000, but over the entire week he added another million to his account. Sebastien Ruthenberg who uses the nickname “taktloss47” was the second most successful player, with a profit of $145,000, while “GSinishtaj” and “thecortster” won around $60k each.

These were the most successful four players yesterday and their corresponding winnings:

Isildur1 – $267,000

taktloss47 – $145,000

GSinishtaj -$61,000

thecortster -$58,800
