Poker players tend to prove their worth at the tables and at the end of the day what matters the most is the amount of money won. Whether they prefer tournaments or cash games, these pros keep their cool and make the most of any opportunity they’ve got to emerge victorious. Once a year, the British Poker Awards celebrate the best players in the world, while emphasising the fast-growing British community.
Last year, HMS President was the gracious host for the event and some of the best British players were nominated for awards in various categories. Sam Trickett was arguably the big winner of the night as he won prizes in three distinct categories and not surprisingly he is among the favourites in 2013. He was nominated in the category of Best Life Tournament player on the year alongside Matt Ashton, Stephen Chidwick, Toby Lewis, David Vamplew and Matt Perrins.
The most important British players are expected to attend the festivities, as the British Poker Awards are the ultimate confirmation of someone’s prowess at the poker table. It’s a bit surprising, that Sam Trickett doesn’t feature in the category of the Best Online Tournament Player or the Performance of the Year. The best poker tournament in the UK will also be nominated with the ISPT Wembley, EPT London and UKIPT Nottingham being among the favourites.
An interesting category is the award presented to the player with the best personality and not surprising Liv Boeree and Jake Cody are at the top of the list. While the British community is growing fast and new players step up every year, the British Poker Awards also celebrate players who reside beyond borders. There is a special category for this award which goes by the name of Best International Player, with five candidates competing for this prize.
Had he been British, Daniel Negreanu would’ve surely featuring the Poker Personality of the Year, but the Canadian has the first chance of triumphing in the International Player section. He is in select competition as Viktor Blom and Marvin Rettenmaier were also added on the list, alongside Dan Kelly and David Baker.
All those nominated for the British Poker Awards are looking forward to this event and they are counting on the support of their fans to make it at the top of the list and receive the coveted awards!
