Unless you have been living under a rock for the past couple of days, you would have heard that PokerStars Team Pro Victoria Coren became the first two-time European Poker Tour Main Event champion after taking down the EPT Sanremo Main Event for a payout of €476,100.
In this instance the payout almost seems insignificant though it will no doubt be welcomed by Coren. This win is more about the history that has been and what it will do for poker, especially since it was done by the same woman who was the first female winner of an EPT title back in Season 3.
For a woman to beat the men to this honour first and foremost and then done after starting the final table as the short stack is only going to attract more women into the game. Not just women either as Coren is a well known personality in the UK because of her column writing for national newspapers and her hosting of television shows. She is not even a full time poker player.
The attention that she is bringing to the game in the UK is massive, which can only be a good thing.
If you did happen to miss the live streaming provided by PokerStars.tv, they have just released a short video once again showing the moment that she took home the historic double. Check it out below.
We would like to congratulate Vicky on what she has achieved for herself but also what she has achieved for poker overall after this win. She is a fantastic ambassador for the game, a wonderful personality and a genuinely nice person to boot.
