Dan Kelly really has to be considered as one of the best online poker players around today, especially in regards to tournament play. He managed to win his fourth career WCOOP bracelet yesterday which sits nicely alongside his one SCOOP title as well as all of his other big online wins.
PokerStars Team Pros Vanessa Selbst and Bertrand ”ElkY” Grosspellier also managed to make it to a final table a piece yesterday, which was in fact the same one. It was definitely Kelly that stole the show. Kelly is not only successful online either, he won the $25k 6-Max event at the WSOP back in 2010 which paid an impressive $1.3 million.
$215 NLHE Rebuy Event 36
Dan Kelly not only outplayed some of the best online poker players around but also came through a huge field of 1,483 players, whilst there were also 1,587 rebuys which actually count as another player in reality. The prize pool generated by all of this was set at $826,000 which broke all expectations.
There were of course all of the usual Team PokerStars Pros taking part, we had Daniel Negreanu, Nacho Barbero, Pius Heinz and super aggressor Eugene Katchalov. None of them however managed to make the cash except for the one PokerStars that seems to cash in everything he plays…George Danzer. He finished in 106th place this time around to earn his 10th cash of the WCOOP this year.
Kelly got to the final table in third place with regards to chip counts and consistently continued to build whilst on it. He made it to heads up versus “auercan” with the huge disadvantage of having a quarter the chips of his opponent. Despite this deficit he refused to make a deal with his opponent, which just shows his confidence, he battled back and took down the title and the whole of the $138,355 first prize.
