WCOOP Main Event – From FPP Points To One Million

full house

The beauty of poker is the success stories it throws up from time to time, and this one has got to be one of the most amazing of all. The PokerStars World Championship Of Online Poker is now over and done with, after the Main Event was completed yesterday.

The Main Event is easily the biggest online poker tournament of the year, with many of the world’s biggest and best poker players taking part, yet it was a guy who spent no money who won it.

‘Maratik” is a regular poker player for sure, he has over 27,000 SNG’s under his name yet his preferred average stake is a mere $3. For this tournament he actually qualified by using some of his earned FPP (frequent player points), this meant going through satellite after satellite until he eventually won his seat. That seat then turned into a huge $1,000,907 payout in true rags to riches story.

Players Who Just Missed Out On The Final Table!

Not everybody can fit on that illustrious final table, with some of the players just missing out being Victor “Puropoker123” Lemos, Kyle “KJulius10” Julius, Calvin “cal42688” Anderson, Francis “The Lag Rat” Anderson, Niklas “ragan70” Heinecker and Kevin “WizardOfAshh” Thurman being some of the more well known names.

Once we did finally emerge at the final table we still did have some big names on there, whilst there were some unknowns too, specifically “maratik”. Here is how the final table looked once it was set:

1 maratik 1,935,189

2 FOO-92 1,402,455

3 Mike “munchenHB” Telker 11,907,089

4 Phil “takechip” D’Auteuil 3,783,516

5 Ryan “TheCart3r” Carter 1,894,230

6 Jossel2008 6,002,830

7 sly caveat 941,302

8 Kakalala 7,633,941

9 mitdadu 999,448

Maratik was actually one of the short stacks as he took his seat on the final table but he managed double up twice to finally find himself in contention after a few eliminations. He then eventually pushed himself up into second place on the leaderboard. When the play got down to the final six players they are struck a deal, with the details of that here:

Mike “munchenHB” Telker $1,000,584.34

Maratik $900,907.26

Jossel2008 $814,602.12

Ryan “TheCart3r” Carter $662,516.39

sly caveat $601,884.39

FOO-92 $502,992.46

This left just $100k to play out for, and the action went superfast after each player had known that they were already guaranteed large payouts. We quickly lost “FOO-92”, “sly caveat” and then the final table chip leader Mike “munchenHB” Telker.

This left just the final three to play it out with only Ryan “TheCart3r” Carter being the only recognizable name, he eventually finished in second after “Jossel2008” had been eliminated in 3rd.

This meant that the story was completed; the Russian “maratik” had gone from FPP to $1million, a WCOOP bracelet and a great story to tell the grandkids.
