Weekly Global Poker Index Update

We are at that time of the week again as the GPI has released its weekly report on the top 300 tournament players in the world. They calculate the top 300 by using a scoring system that ranks the players dependent on their tournament results for the past three years.

This week saw a change at the top as the leader for the past month has again swapped places with Jason Mercier.

The Current Top Ten:

Jason Mercier 2,956.35 +1

Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier 2,780.55 -1

Marvin Rettenmaier 2,567.86 +1

Steve O’Dwyer 2,561.56 +4

Andrew Lichtenberger 2,550.38 –

Philipp Gruissem 2,532.38 –

Michael Mizrachi 2,443.11 +2

Vanessa Selbst 2,419.96 -1

Phil Hellmuth 2,409.32 +20

Dan Smith 2,393.94 -7

Jason Mercier returned to the summit after finishing in eight place at the WSOPE Main Event, he took home $110,467 in the process. What is most surprising about that result is that it is his first six figure payout of the year.

The winner in that event, Phil Hellmuth has jumped up twenty places in the rankings and is now in 9th place. He won his 13th WSOP bracelet and took home €1,022,376 for his troubles. Another big mover this week saw Mike Watson jump up 29 places to 15th after his win in the €50,000 High Roller in Cannes, in which he scooped a cool million Euros too.

It’s tight at the top between Mercier and Grospellier yet they should be looking over their shoulders right now. Plenty of players seem to be hitting form right at the right time, including Hellmuth and Gruissem, with the latter already at another final table as we speak. Mercier though has the WSOP Main Event final table to look forward to, where he could just about wrap up the title if he wins it.
