With talk of the controversy of the opening event still rumbling on in the background it could be understandable if players decided to stay away from this event. However, the $3 million guaranteed WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship still managed to bring in the crowds as there were around 422 registrations throughout Day 1a.
There were about 230 players that came through the first 8 levels of this event with the man leading the chip counts being Laz Hernandez on 258,175. He has a good lead of around 70k on John Racener who also had a good Day 1a in second place currently.
Bagged 186,250 on day 1 of Borgata Main Event. Received a 3k bonus for my 2nd place chip stack finish #FreeRolllllllin

Of the big names to progress into Day 2 there were the likes of Jordan Cristos, Noah Schwartz, Christian Harder, Matt Salsberg, Matt Glantz, Greg Merson and Shannon Shorr all doing enough to come back for another day.

There were plenty of players that were not so lucky though and they will be contemplating buying back in for Day 1b later today. Out of the event on Day 1a went PokerStars Team Pro Vanessa Selbst, Will Failla, Zo Karim, Chino Rheem and Jeff Madsen.
Busted bullet 1, back at it tomorrow. #WPTBorgata
