WPT Heading For South Africa

When the World Poker Tour was originally created, it may have come across as a little misleading with regards to the word “World”, as ten of the eleven stops were actually held in the US. It was kind of reminiscent of the World Series Of Basketball which is also played solely in the US.

However, since then the World Poker Tour has in fact completely spread its wings and is now a fully fledged global venture. It now has stops all over the world with the very latest of them being in South Africa.

Back in 2012 the WSOP actually began a WSOP Circuit event there, the success it has shown has convinced the powers at be at the WPT to now dedicate a whole poker festival in the country.

The WPT South Africa Starting This Week!

The event will be starting this Friday the 19th of October and will run right through until the 26th with a whole host of events. It will kick off with a $500 NLHE event, with players starting out with 10k in chips and have to navigate 40 minute blinds.

Other events will include a $1,100 No Limit Hold’em Six-Max event, a ladies Championship with a $330 buy-in, a High Roller $10,500, a PLO $2,200 event and of course the main attraction being the $3,300 World Poker Tour South Africa Main Event.

The Main Event!

The Main Event will give each player 30k in chips and blind increases every hour for the first days play and then every ninety minutes thereafter. The event will also be a re-entry affair which will enable any players that are unfortunate to bow out on the first flight of Day 1, the opportunity to buy back in for Day 1b for a second shot.

We can be sure of some big names attending, with all of the best players from South Africa a dead cert to be taking part. South Africans such as Raymond Rahme, Darren Krmaer and Jarred Soloman will be joined on the felt by players from all over the world. Dominik Nitsche has already stated he will be there, as has Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree.

We are licking our lips in anticipation at the first WPT event to be held in South Africa, we think it is going to go down a storm. Each player will want to be the first winner of such an event which will just add to the excitement.

We will be following it as it goes along, so make sure you keep coming back for your event updates.
