WPT Rolling Thunder – JC Tran Triumphs (vid)

Poker chips

We mentioned it yesterday in our report on this event that if there was anyone on that final table that could come back from the second smallest stack and win the event then it would be JC Tran. He went and proved us right on Day 4 of the World Poker Tour Rolling Thunder after starting the day with 710,000 in chips and finishing it with all of the chips in the event.

He took home $302,750 for his efforts along with a seat worth $15,400 in the WPT World Championship, the end of season event that he will certainly be one of the favourites to take down.

This event originally started four days ago with a total of 465 players taking to the felt. Tran played superbly to not only navigate his way past the majority of them to make the final table, but also to turn that final table on its head.

He had to overcome an impressive performance from Preston Harwell when the two were heads up for the title. Tran started that session with almost half the chips of his opponent but he grinded his opponent down until he actually went in front. Harwell fought back and in fact the players swapped the chip lead on a number of occasions until a big hand saw his opponent go below 10 big blinds.

This deficit would be one that was too much for Harwell to recover from and the final hand came quickly after. Harwell pushed all-in pre-flop with the 8s-5s and Tran made the call with the Kd-4c. The board fell as the 6c-4s-2d-10h-9h to give Tran a pair, the hand, the 1st place winnings and the title.
